Today is 9/11
And now, we have the Islamic State to deal with.
Bottom line: No one is safe anywhere. That goes double for religious minorities, including not-so-small religious minorities. And being a journalist is even more likely to get one killed now than it was before.

I don't know that we were ever safe. 9/11 brought us face to face with that reality, and frankly, too many Americans just couldn't handle that truth.
Reform BT, you probably have a point, unfortunately.
If you want complete safety, you will probably have to wait until after you are dead.
On the other hand, your likelihood of being run over by a vehicle is approximately 1.8 billion times the likelihood of your being killed by Islamists. (OK, the statistic is probably an exaggeration, but it is basically true that the number of Americans killed by terrorists has been pretty close to zero most years after 2001, and I think the number of New Yorkers suffering that fate is in fact zero).
